The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) on Tuesday added three House challengers to its Red to Blue program, including Bill Hill, an independent running for Alaska’s at-large seat. The additions bring the program to 40 candidates.
All three are running against Republican incumbents, in Alaska, Michigan and Wisconsin, as Democrats try to win back the House majority with less than 50 days until the election. Red to Blue candidates receive strategic guidance, staff resources, training and fundraising support from the committee.
DCCC Chair Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-WA) called the three “unbought, practical leaders who know what it takes to win in tough districts.”
Hill, a Dena’ina Athabascan commercial fisherman, union construction worker and educator of nearly 25 years, is running as a pro-choice, pro-gun rights Independent against Rep. Nick Begich. Begich won the seat in 2024 by just over 2.4 points in the final ranked-choice round, while Trump won the state by roughly 13 points.
In Michigan’s 7th District, the committee added Will Lawrence, a Lansing community organizer challenging first-term Rep. Tom Barrett. The Caucus rates the race a Toss Up. Lawrence has also joined calls for a statewide moratorium on data centers, an issue that has become central to Michigan’s governor’s race.
Mitchell Berman, an emergency room nurse, is running in Wisconsin’s 1st District, against Rep. Bryan Steil, who has held the seat since 2019. Of the three races, it is the hardest for Democrats on paper, Steil won in 2024 by nearly 10 points while Trump carried Wisconsin by less than a single percentage point.
