Former Vice President Kamala Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, has expressed reservations about her launching another bid for the presidency in 2028, the Wall Street Journal reported.

He has privately said that he would prefer that she didn’t run. Multiple donors have expressed a similar sentiment, with some telling Harris that her bid would be a long shot, sources familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal.

These conversations come months into Harris’s aggressive momentum along the campaign trail as she stumps for Democratic candidates in Michigan, New Hampshire, Georgia and more. Her involvement in supporting candidates in the midterm elections has been widely seen as an indicator of her potentially launching a bid for president in 2028.

If she chooses to run again, it would be her third campaign. Unlike with her 2026 effort, she would likely face a crowded field of Democratic candidates, though her name recognition is likely to give her an advantage among voters. Multiple polls put her in the lead as a potential Democratic presidential nominee. However, Harris and other Democrats weighing presidential bids have largely declined to say whether they plan on running for the office, signalling that any announcements would come after the midterm elections.

In a recent interview on actress Keke Palmer’s podcast, the former vice president said she hasn’t decided yet on whether she will run.

“I haven’t decided. I haven’t decided yet,” she said. “I will, I promise.” She added that “’28 don’t matter if we don’t do ’26 right.” Her focus would remain on “what’s right in front of us” — a sentiment she has repeated across numerous public appearances.
